What does the Metadata Remover do?

Every photo taken by a camera or smartphone contains hidden EXIF metadata — including your GPS coordinates, device model, lens information, and timestamp. When you share photos online, this data travels with them. The PrivatePhotoSuite Metadata Remover reads and displays this hidden information, then strips it all when you download — entirely in your browser, with no upload.

What data does EXIF contain?

EXIF metadata can include: GPS latitude and longitude (your exact location), camera make and model, date and time the photo was taken, lens specifications, software used to edit the photo, and in some cases, artist name and copyright information. The GPS data is particularly sensitive — it can reveal your home address or where you travel.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will stripping metadata affect image quality?

No. The image pixel data is completely unchanged. The metadata is stored separately in the file header, and removing it does not affect the visual quality in any way.

What is the Privacy Risk Score?

The tool analyzes which types of metadata are present. GPS location data = High risk. Device info (make, model) = Medium risk. Basic metadata with no GPS = Low risk.

Does stripping metadata remove my copyright information?

Yes, if you have set copyright information in the EXIF data, it will be removed along with everything else. The "Strip All" feature removes all EXIF fields. Consider whether you need to retain copyright data before stripping.
